Land Use Planner
The successful candidate will
work with the Sahtu Land Use Planning Board, as well as with Sahtu communities,
individuals and organisations, to implement the land use plan for the
Sahtu Region of the Northwest Territories.
Duties:
- Supervise the daily operations of the Board
- Collect and analyse natural resource and socio-economic
information
- Execute a communications strategy including community
and stakeholder meetings and other liaison activities
- Prepare issue papers, briefs, and reports
- Assist in the writing of the land use plan
- Implement the plan including checking permits, license
conformance, amendments, and exceptions
Qualifications:
- University Degree (Master’s preferred) or equivalent
in Land Use Planning, Geography, Natural Resources, or related field
- Excellent interpersonal & cross-cultural skills
- Some knowledge of the Sahtu Region, the Sahtu Dene
and Metis Land Claim Agreement, and the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management
Act
- Computer literate (Geographic Information Systems
experience is an asset)
- A North Slavey Language ability is a strong asset
Term: Up to 2 Years
Salary: Negotiable ($55,000
- $65,000 per annum), plus benefits package and northern allowance are
dependent on qualifications and experience.
Knowledge of the Sahtu Dene and Metis
Land Claim Agreement would be an asset.
